At SunSow Agro, our commitment to transforming agriculture in Uganda goes beyond connecting farmers to markets—it’s about creating sustainable livelihoods, fostering economic growth, and empowering communities. Our impact is felt across multiple fronts, from boosting farmer productivity to advancing education and community health through our CSR initiatives.
Transforming Agriculture and Livelihoods
1. Empowering Farmers and Communities:
o We work with 37 Farmers’ Associations spanning rural and semi-urban communities in Uganda.
o Our growing network of over 15,373 smallholder farmers benefits from tailored services, including market access, Agro-processing, capacity-building, and sustainable farming solutions.
2. Connecting Farmers to Markets:
o We supply agricultural produce to 23 hotels, 27 restaurants, three Agro-produce exporters, and hundreds of households across the country. This ensures farmers earn fair prices while consumers enjoy high-quality produce.
3. Strategic Partnerships for Greater Impact:
o By partnering with District Agricultural Officers, Extension Agricultural Workers, Lobo Global Impact, Einstein Rising, Finding XY, Private Equity Support and Youth Startup Academy Uganda, input and output suppliers, NGOs, and financial institutions, we amplify our efforts to deliver transformative solutions. These collaborations support everything from capacity-building to ensuring farmers access finance and modern farming tools.
4. Job Creation:
o Our work generates both direct and indirect employment opportunities. From field extension officers to Agro-processors, transporters, and input suppliers, SunSow Agro contributes to building a strong agricultural value chain.5. Sustainability and Environmental Conservation:
o We actively promote sustainable agricultural practices, including soil management, climate-smart irrigation systems, and environmental conservation initiatives. By educating farmers on eco-friendly methods, we’re safeguarding resources for future generations.
Our CSR Impact: The SunSow Agro Girls Football Tournament
We believe empowering communities extends beyond agriculture. Through our SunSow Agro Girls Football Tournament, we’ve used sports as a platform to drive education, health, and financial empowerment.
1. Increasing School Enrolment:
o The inaugural winners Nakasengere Primary School in 2019 saw their enrolment surge from 534 to 727 students after the tournament.
o Similarly, the 2022 champions experienced an increase from 339 to 513 students, showcasing the tournament’s profound impact on community engagement and education.
2. Academic Scholarships:
o Across three tournament editions, 36 exceptional players—the Best 11 from each year—were awarded full-year academic scholarships and essential school supplies. This initiative was made possible through partnerships with Finding XY, Einstein Rising, and Lobo Global Impact.
3. Empowering Health Initiatives:o Over 637 young girls were trained, and 37 health clubs established in schools. These clubs teach girls to make reusable sanitary towels and train them as peer educators, fostering health awareness and menstrual hygiene management.
4. Promoting Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship:
o Post-tournament, we introduced financial literacy programs that led to the formation of 29 Young Savers Clubs and the training of 523 children in participating schools.
o A notable success is Nakasengere Primary School, where students established a project producing and selling paper bags to local shops, cultivating entrepreneurial skills and savings habits.
